Cycle trail plans progress
Planning for a cycle trail north of Dunedin has picked up pace.
The project had secured support from landowners and KiwiRail was supportive in principle, Coastal Communities Cycle Connection representative Emily Cooper said.
A clip-on would be needed on a KiwiRail bridge across the Waikouaiti River, she said.
A feasibility study on the planned route would be completed in the coming weeks.
"The project is gathering a momentum of its own," Ms Cooper said at a Dunedin City Council annual plan hearing yesterday.
Securing funding will be among the next challenges.
The route is expected to feature in the development of a walking and cycling master plan for the city.
"This master plan will identify what has changed and where our main walking and cycling routes should be," Ms Cooper said in her written submission.
"This will help the council put together a programme of works to improve the safety of those routes and offer broader transport choices across the city."
