Dunedin Tracks Network Trust, DCC, and DOC sign MOU to work together.

The Dunedin Tracks Network Trust (DnTNT), Dunedin City Council (DCC), and the Department of Conservation (DOC) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering a collaboration to create one of the world’s great track networks for Dunedin people and visitors to the city.

This agreement brings together three key stakeholders committed to promoting sustainable outdoor recreation while preserving the natural beauty of Dunedin. The MoU outlines joint objectives, respective roles and responsibilities of the parties, and the shared intention to develop and implement a framework and agreed work plan to expand, connect and maintain trails, signage, and visitor facilities creating a sustainable ‘world-class’ network for Dunedin.

"We are thrilled to formalise our partnership with the Dunedin City Council and the Department of Conservation," said Paul Coffey, Chairperson of DnTNT. "This MoU has been quite a while in the making and represents a significant step towards ensuring a strategic approach to the development of shared-use tracks and trails across the city, giving consideration to key factors such as connecting communities, enabling adventure, ensuring accessibility, and enhancing the ecological integrity of our natural environment."

DOC Coastal Otago Operations Manager Gabe Davies says working alongside the DnTNT and the DCC aligns well with DOC’s Heritage and Visitor Strategy, which aims to connect people to and protect New Zealand’s natural, cultural and historic heritage
"The Department of Conservation is committed to working with Mana Whenua and alongside local communities to protect and enhance our natural heritage.”
“This collaboration aims to create a cohesive network of tracks, that will showcase Dunedin's unique landscapes and encourage community-led conservation initiatives to continue to protect our rich natural heritage.”

The DCC believes “the partnership exemplifies its shared commitment to providing quality outdoor experiences for residents and visitors alike.” Dunedin City Council Group Manager Parks and Recreation Heath Ellis says. "This agreement signifies our ongoing efforts to support outdoor recreation, healthy people, active transport options, and cycle tourism opportunities in Dunedin."
